Yes so now a lot of you are seeking alternatives from 'cancer catalystical products', and like I always say, NOTHING beats natural ingredients. Feel free to look at our Recipes section for information on how to make your own products, but first I shall share my alternatives.
Skin Cream/Lotion Alternative:
What I do, especially since I have sensitive skin, is to make my own Shea Butter and Oil mix to apply to my skin while it's still a bit damp. Damp skin absorbs moisture a lot better than when it's completely dry.
Ingredients: UNREFINED Shea Butter (Very hard, looks kind of like a rock and it MUST say 'Unrefined' or 'Raw' on the packaging), Jojoba Oil, Coconut oil, Olive Oil and Vitamin E Oil.
I blend all the ingredients with a mixer then heat them to produce a nice oil which I apply to my skin after showering. It has a really nice coco/shea butter smell and leaves my skin feeling well moisturized and gorgeous! Also you don't need to actually heat, if you like the fluffy creamy consistency, then it's perfectly fine.
Info on the ingredients-
Shea Butter: Moisture-rich butter obtained from the nuts of the Mangifolia tree in Central Africa, also known as karite butter or African butter. A superb emollient, high in fatty acids and other nutrients, it is an ideal ingredient for skin moisturizers, sun care products and hair conditioners.
Jojoba Oil: When used in cosmetic preparations, it not only acts as a humectant, but actually creates a protective film over the skin and hair shaft that helps seal in moisture. The oil is highly stable and very effective on dry skin, damaged hair and split ends.
Coconut Oil: The seeds of carrots yield an essential oil that is rich in beta carotene, orange or red compounds that are precursors to vitamin A and occur naturally in plants. Also high in vitamin E, it is essential to skin cell regeneration and stimulates the production of sebum in dry, scaly scalps and skin.
Olive Oil: Rich emollient high in oleic acid, very beneficial to the skin. Used in skin care preparations for thousands of years for its softening and smoothing properties.
Vitamin E Oil: The most potent antioxidant vitamin around, it protects skin from cancer-causing free radicals and is essential for proper utilization of oxygen in the tissues. In cosmetics it also acts as a natural preservative, protecting the oil phase in creams and lotions.
Hair Cream/Lotion Alternative:
Funny enough, since we're dealing with natural stuff here, the previous recipe can also be used for the hair, I use it all the time and my hair loves me for it. :)
Hair Gel Alternative:
A lot of popular hair gels such as
So what do I do? I keep it natural. Flaxseed (Linseed) when boiled in hot water, gives off a thick gel like consistency, which when collected in a container, becomes a really good Gel alternative. I also mix in 3-5 drops of Peppermint essential oil, which gives it a nice aroma.
However the Gel must be refrigerated as it goes off at room temperature after a few days, even with it being in the fridge it would only last for about 2-3 weeks, so make sure you make enough for a small container so that you will be able to use it all before it gets wasted.
Info on the ingredients-
Flaxseed (Linseed): Emollient and anti-inflammatory high in essential fatty acids, B vitamins, protein and minerals. Very nourishing to dry hair and skin (flaxseed oil), whether taken internally or applied topically. Also contains a group of chemicals called lignans that may play a role in the prevention of cancer
Hair Shampoo/Conditioner Alternative:
Although I haven't looked at any recipes for making homemade shampoo or conditioners, http://aubreyorganicsuk.co.uk sell many natural products, and they even have an ingredients dictionary which is useful when an ingredient's scientific name is used instead. Though they say they're natural, it is still necessary to check the ingredients in every product you purchase and make sure you know what each and every one of them does.
I am currently awaiting my order for http://www.aubreyorganicsuk.co.uk/product/16/gpb-shampoo-conditioner-set/ so I write my review on that in a few weeks time. I hope this information helped. :)
